The Quiet Voice, Hello 2023

So here we are staring off into the new year eagerly waiting to see what will happen next. Our resolutions have been made. Or we’ve made skeptical jokes about making resolutions. Either way we are thinking about the possibility of the future. Will our lives get just a little bit closer to how we wish them to be, or will we get to 2024 and wonder what could have been?

I’m here to tell you that your life can be exactly how you wish it to be. That you can have everything and be everything that your heart desires. It starts with one simple decision. To listen to the quiet voice that every so often whispers to you while a thousand other voices inside and outside your head scream at you. But the quiet voice is the one that will lead you to the mountain top. Once you are there, the quiet voice will tell you that you have made the right decision.

The quiet voice tells you that you were made for greatness, that you have everything you need to achieve your dreams. It tells you that you are worthy of being loved and deserve a life of joy and fulfillment.

So how do we drown out the noise and amplify that voice so we can stay focused and be confident that we are on our way to living our life exactly as we wish to? Here are three tips that are tried and true to finding and hearing our inner guiding voice:

  1. TURN DOWN THE NOISE

Our modern lives are like a war zone of information and sensory overload. We feel an obligation to constantly be aware of everything and respond to everything. My 80 year old father apologized to me the other day for not getting back to my text right away. It had been under an hour since I had sent it. Turn off as many notifications as you can on your cell phone. I promise you that you will be happier not knowing everything happening at all times.

Create a quiet space in your house. For the last 14 years I’ve lived in two densely populated vibrant cities, Chicago and Lima. I love the zip and energy of city life, but it does come with a cost. There is always something exciting or interesting happening externally to capture our attention. That takes our attention away from our inner lives. Get aways to the countryside and rural areas are fantastic, but you may not be able to do that all the time.

What you can do is sit on a yoga mat or in a comfortable chair, close your eyes and just rest your heart and mind. Your thoughts may be frenetic at first. Give it a couple of minutes and just listen to your heart. Breathe deep. Exhale slowly. The quiet voice will start to whisper and you will be ready to listen.

  2. WRITE DOWN YOUR THOUGHTS

When the quiet voice pops into your head with an idea jot it down or send yourself a message on your phone. The act of capturing the idea tells your subconscious mind that your listening and that it is important. How do you feel when you are talking and someone starts taking notes? By capturing your ideas you are encouraging more creativity and empowering your intuition. You are telling your mind that what you think is more important than the latest news headline popping up on your phone.

And trust me - what you think IS more important!

  3. ASK FOR IT TO SPEAK UP

If you can’t hear the voice inside you, ask it to raise its voice. Ask your intuition to guide you and it will. Ask your heart to tell you what you’ve always wanted to hear. Ask your soul what your dreams are. Ask yourself what do I really want to do with my life? Where do I want to go? What makes me unique? What is something that makes me really joyful when I’ve completed it? What can I do that is of benefit to my friends and family and the world around me? If someone was making a movie about my life, what would I want the last scene to be?

The more you ask, the more the quiet voice will speak to you.

You have everything you need right inside of you to have the best year of your life in 2023. But you have to get started right away. Don’t put it off. I can’t wait to see all the crazy audacious shit you will do!
